Why is our local music scene so important?
It doesn't matter what career path you are looking to explore, or one you chose years ago. The fact is everyone has to start somewhere, and it's the early stages in your chosen career that ground you for the rest of your life. They can provide the best and worst stories, offer experiences like you could never imagine, and make your dreams a reality for the first time.
In the world of entertainment, in what ever creative field, you have to start at the bottom, unless you are extremely lucky. Musicians sometimes have to perform in some of the worst venues imaginable just to get a few quid in their pocket, and another gig under their belt. Most musicians don't mind this stage as their love of performing is out weighed by most negatives of the situation.
Becoming a musician can be quite an expensive venture, guitars, drums, mics and all the rest don't come cheap, and when most local gigs pay very little its hard to maintain the passion. However its these small intimate gigs that provide the best experiences, and sometimes having very little money to spare can build the character to boost an artist forward into the industry.
All of this is impossible without the local community supporting their local talent, paying a small amount of money for a good night out, and from experience every penny is worth it.
The likes of Ed Sheeran, Adele, most of your favourite artists would never be where they are now, if it wasn't for a small group of people believing, and supporting them. There is amazing talent around every corner, wherever you are in the world. There is always a talent waiting to be discovered and is local communities that can get an artist onto its feet and go on to produce amazing things.
For me, you can't beat local events, seeing the artists hard work and determination pay off! So if you haven't already go and check out what your community has to offer, I bet you will be pleasantly surprised.
